What to see in Ibiza: the best plans

1 The old town of Ibiza: Dalt Vila

dalt-vila

The old walled city had to top this list of things to see in Ibiza, no matter what. It’s a place that was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999 and is surrounded by Renaissance walls. It has a large number of bars and restaurants, art galleries, craft shops, and countless points of interest such as the Catedral de Nuestra Señora de las Nieves, the Archaeological Museum of Ibiza and Formentera, and the impressive views from the walls over the rest of Ibiza.

Another attraction to see in Ibiza, specifically in Dalt Vila, is the Portal de Ses Taules, the main entrance to the citadel, or the Portal Nou, which leaves you right in front of the Museum of Contemporary Art. And a good tip we can give you, if you add Dalt Vila to your list of places to see in Ibiza, is to explore it on foot because some of its streets are narrow, winding, and entirely cobbled.

2 The beaches and coves of Ibiza

Ibiza has some of the most spectacular beaches in the Mediterranean. One favourite is Playa de Ses Salines. It has fine white sand and movie-like waters, transparent and with a certain turquoise colour.

All this might make you think the beach is always packed, but it’s not. It’s usually busy enough but quite spacious and has parking, so there’s room for everyone.

Another of Ibiza’s most popular beaches is Playa d’en Bossa, the longest beach on the island and also the one with the most vibrant nightlife. This beach features fine golden sand. And when it comes to coves, there are plenty! Our favourites are Cala Comte and Cala Salada, both with crystal-clear waters, perfect for relaxing and enjoying a sunset.

3 The hippie markets: Las Dalias and Punta Arabí

The markets are also one of Ibiza’s highlights. No traveller visits the island without stopping by at least one. These hippie markets are an integral part of the local Ibizan culture, and there are many to choose from; however, the most famous are the Las Dalias and Punta Arabí markets.

Las Dalias is an old market that has been open all year round since 1954. It started as a small meeting point for trading but now hosts over 200 stalls where you can find everything: clothes, jewellery, art, decor items, natural products, food, and much more.

The second market, also known as Punta Arabí or the Hippy Market, boasts around 500 different stalls offering various crafts, food, and even musical instruments. This market is a pure reflection of Ibiza’s hippie heritage and you can browse its stalls daily from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm.

4 Es Vedrà: the most mysterious rock

Islas baleares - Es Vedrà

Es Vedrà is a rocky islet located off the southwest coast of Ibiza. It’s famous for its scenic beauty and mysticism, shrouded in countless legends.

It’s said to have magnetic properties comparable to the Bermuda Triangle, to be a UFO landing site, or even the island of mermaids. Many locals have seen inexplicable lights coming from Es Vedrà on various occasions. Could it be true?

Whether or not you believe in paranormal phenomena, Es Vedrà is a place that exudes beauty, especially at sunrise or sunset. From the Torre des Savinar viewpoint, the views are particularly breathtaking. You can’t visit Ibiza without seeing a sunset here.

5 Can Marçà Caves: an underground adventure for the brave

Cuevas-de-Can-marca

Located in the north of the island on the edge of a cliff, is Can Marçà, a natural cave filled with stalactites, stalagmites, and underground lakes. Apart from its appearance, the cave has an intriguing past full of stories about smugglers, pirates, and spirits.

The main attraction, however, is the stunning sea views, overlooking the bay of Puerto de San Miguel and the Murada and Ferradura islands. Guided tours of the tunnels last about 40 minutes and are well worth it. But if you’re claustrophobic, you might be satisfied with just admiring the spectacular views from outside. It’s up to you.

6 Formentera: a must-see stop on your way through Ibiza

Formentera

You can’t plan what to see in Ibiza without including Formentera on the list. We know it’s another island, but it’s so close, just 30 or 40 minutes by ferry from Ibiza, that a trip to Formentera is a perfect plan. Formentera offers white sandy beaches, turquoise waters, and a very tranquil atmosphere, ideal for relaxing on the last day of your trip.

Moreover, Formentera also has numerous picturesque villages filled with artisanal markets and authentic Balearic cuisine. What more could you ask for?
